The reconstruction era was the time of reformation of the country coming together as one. This gave citizenship to all african american and allowed them to vote. An African- American citizen is being tormented and being threatened by two white american citizens, which are pointing their guns to the african americans head. In this time, african americans were tormented and even killed when they were headed to vote. At times, some African Americans did not make it to their destination because they were mislead.

This cartoon illustrates the tension between blacks and whites during the Reconstruction Era. From the picture, you can assume that the box to the left of the picture is for voting purposes and because of the style of clothing the African American is wearing, he is a newly freed slave trying to vote. The two white men are threatening the slave with guns while other white men watch in the background doing nothing but smirking. The poor black man can't even vote because white men were suppressing his new right to vote, a common, yet nonetheless unfair racial occurrence during the Reconstruction Era.
ReplyDeleteThis reconstruction cartoon shows the issues that occured after african american slaves were freed and posessed equal rights. The slave was being threatened by the whites when the african american attempted to vote after being granted the right to vote. as you can see, not everyone agreed with the laws that were made during the reconstruction era.
